About our Club
Perhaps you think that Rotary is only about cooking snags and selling raffle tickets? Perhaps you think Rotary is only about Youth Exchange? Perhaps you think Rotary is a bunch of old men? Or maybe you don’t have any pre conceived ideas about Rotary at all?
Well, there are a lot of men in Rotary, some of them quite old too. But Rotary is also for younger people and women and for having fun, friendship and helping the community.
The Rotary Club of Frankston Long Island is a bit different to other clubs– we have quite a few women members and we only meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month for a light breakfast at The Frankston Life Saving Club. We start at 7.00 for 7.15 am and finish at 8.30 am – so meetings don’t interfere with your day!
We meet casually at other times too for movie nights, winery lunches, BBQ’s or evening dinners. We also do the occasional sausage sizzle, run an annual golf day and raise thousands of dollars each year for local community groups such as Frankston Churches Community Breakfast program where the homeless and disadvantaged of the area receive a hearty breakfast 6 days a week. We have also helped raise funds for Peninsula Hospice; the Frankston Men’s Shed Project; Frankston SES; Mental Illness Fellowship; and Frankston Youth Resource Centre, just to name a few.
We sponsor Rotary Youth Exchange programs for outward-bound and inward-bound students who spend a year in the country of destination. We also sponsor local students to National Youth Science Forums in Canberra; Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA); and Rotary Youth Leadership camps.
Hands on projects have included the building of a playground in the drought stricken town of Rainbow in the Mallee district of Victoria; removal of a large tree and fire wood from a disability service; carting, and storing of unwanted hospital beds that are then shipped out by container to East Timor and other south east Asian destinations..
Rotarians plan and carry out a remarkable variety of humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs that touch people’s lives in their local and world communities. At the same time, we enjoy professional networking; personal and professional growth and development; entertainment; friendship and lots of fun!
