President’s report, 15 Apr 2011
This report is a few days early because I head of to Broken Hill this Sunday to visit Katrina’s birthplace. Should be an interesting trip as we will be travelling through parts of Victoria affected by the recent floods and also crossing the Murray. So unfortunately I will not be at the meeting on 21st April.
At the last meeting AG Chris Angerer gave the members a presentation on Rotary Foundations and upcoming changes. It certainly seems a completed and lengthy process to get funding for projects but something the Club should probably think about doing in the next 12 months. Any members who have an idea for an overseas project speak to a member of the Board.
The speakers at the meeting on 21st April are from SEDA who are looking for support from the Club to run some soccer training sessions with the homeless in Frankston.
The Board at its meeting on Tuesday approved the donation of $1,500 to fund to Aquaboxes.
The organising of this year’s Alternative Schoolies Program to Cambodia is progressing well with 9 students signing up and more expected in the next couple of weeks.
Orla the Exchange Student sponsored by our Club is having a great time in Brazil. The Club will be hosting an incoming exchange student from Norway, commencing in July. Any members who are interested in hosting the student please speak to Tony or Judy.
The date for the Cancer Council’s Frankston Relay for Life has been confirmed. It will be held on 24/25 September. The Club has a team so you can join the team by going the Relay for Life website. The Club will also have a sausage sizzle at the event. The members involved in last year’s event had a great time and this year will be even better.
Don’t forget the Club will be celebrating its 30th year as a Club on 8th October. A date to put in your diary. Spread the word to former members and friends of Rotary.
The last Club Sausage Sizzle for a couple of months will be held on Sunday 1st May at Bunnings Frankston. Money raised will go towards the Alternative Schoolies Program to Cambodia. Let Steve Cernotta know if you can help out.
Have a great and safe Easter.
President Brad
President’s report, 15 Mar 2011
The last Club meeting was an excellent example of Rotarians showing support for fellow Rotarians. Many shades of red and black were worn by members to show support for the Rotarians in Christchurch.
Our Guest Speaker Russell Kerr, the Founder and Director of Hands On Learning, provided members with an informative and thought-provoking talk on an innovative program, helping students in danger of leaving school too early, to stay on course.
The guest speakers this week are Carlee O’Hehir, President of the Peninsula Rotaract Club and Laura Bird, PP Peninsula Rotaract Club, who will talk about their Alternative Schoolies trip to Tanzania.
In support of Flood Relief the Club has pledged $2,000 provided support to Rotary Clubs/activities in flood affected areas of Victoria. This includes $1,000 to the District Emergency Relief Fund. If members have any ideas on what other support the Club could provide, please let me know.
The Club is also supporting the Kind 2 Mind Youth Mental Health Expo being hosted by Family Life at the Frankston Arts Centre on 30 March. The expo is targeted at Year 8 students across Frankston and Mornington Peninsula, aiming to promote positive mental health messages and de-stigmatise mental health issues with young people.
The Club will be celebrating its 30th anniversary on 8th October. A date to put in your diary. Spread the word to former members and friends of Rotary.
The Club will be helping out with the Sausage Sizzle at the Easter Egg Hunt at the Mornington Racecourse on Sunday 9th April. If you are available see Steve Cernotta.
See you Thursday.

Dear Fellow Rotarians and Friends of Rotary
Welcome to March! The devastating earthquake in Christchurch highlights for me the need to live your life to the fullest and love and support family and friends. We have received a request from the RC of Christchurch Sunrise to show our support for them in a small way by wearing black and red the Canterbury colours to our Club meeting on Thursday. Those bombers supporters amongst us should not have much trouble doing that.
The 106th Rotary birthday celebrations at George Pentland Gardens last Wednesday was a great night with over 250 Rotarians and friends attending and around $3,500 raised. Thanks to those members, friends of Rotary and other guests for attending the event.
If you have not already done so check out our revamped website. Thank you Richard for the work you have done. If any members have photos or ideas for the website let Richard or I know. We might even start up facebook and twitter accounts.
At our last meeting the members voted for the Club to put in an application to be part of the RI pilot program for the Corporate membership trial. We should find out in April or May if we are successful.
The continuing need of the children in Cambodia was highlighted in the talk on the Cambodian Childrens Fund that PP Roy Travis gave the Club at its last meeting. There are some remarkable people devoting their lives to help children in Cambodia. Our Guest speaker this week is Russell Kerr from Hands on Learning. Future guest speakers include Laura Bird and Carlee O’Hehir on 17thMarch who will tell us about their experiences in Tanzania and David Kong from the Sudanese Community on 7th April.
See you Thursday.
