President’s report 30 Jan 2012

Dear Fellow Rotarians

The passing of Shirley Louden last week is a reminder to us all of the continuing need for support for cancer research. I only meet Shirley a couple of times but I know of the impact that Shirley had on Rotary in the District and the support she gave to fellow Rotarians. The Club will be making a donation to Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Foundation which Shirley supported.

I encourage all members to sign up for the Cancer Council’s Relay for Life to be held on 22 and 23 September. It is great event and a excellent opportunity for fellowship with your fellow club members while raising money for Cancer Research. See Judy or myself to see how easy it is to join the Movers & Shakers Team.

At our last meeting Janet, Judy, Ross and Archie gave a report on the recent Cambodia Schoolies Trip. The 15 schoolies who went had a life-changing experience and also got the chance to see some of the wonders of Cambodia. The next trip is already being planned so if you want to be part of the next trip see Judy. A reunion of schoolies from 2010 and 2011 will be held at Janet’s place on Sunday 5th February. It would be a good opportunity to hear how the trip has impacted on their lives.

The Club’s fundraising gets back in to full swing in February with CAT Sampler kits being assembled. This is something members can do in front of the TV or well listening to the cricket on the radio. See Ross if you want to help out. Also the first sausage sizzle is happening on Wednesday 15th February at the Mornington Race Day. The BBQ raises money for the Aimee Carter Ghana Project. See Steve Cernotta to organise time for you to assist with the BBQ. You can put on a few bets while checking out the fashions on the field.

The annual Rotary Birthday Celebrations for the Nepean and Peninsula Clusters is on again this year. This year it is being held in the Gardens of The Peninsula Community Theatre, Cnr. Nepean Highway & Wilsons Road Mornington at 7pm. Cost is $25 per head. Payment can be made at the next club meeting. Come along and catch up with Rotarians from other clubs.

This week will also be the last opportunity to register for the District Conference being held in Ballarat on 23-25 March. See Ross for a registration form.

See you all at the next Club Meeting this Thursday 2nd February at the Frankston Surf Lifesaving Club 7.00 for 7.15am.

Regards
President Brad

President’s report, 17 Jan 2012

Happy New Year to all. Thanks to Judy, Ross and David and everyone else who ran the show whilst I was in Central Australia. I am planning to be in Melbourne for at least the next 6 months.

By all accounts the Cambodia Schoolies Trip was a great success with many tales yet to be told. I am sure we will hear some of them at upcoming club meetings. We had a great social start to 2012 with the annual lunch at Kirks in Mornington. It was great to catch up with club members.

I look forward to seeing you all this Thursday at the Club Meeting at Frankston Lifesaving Club at 7.00 for 7.15am. See you then. President Brad
