President’s report 1st Mar 2011
Dear Fellow Rotarians and Friends of Rotary
Welcome to March! The devastating earthquake in Christchurch highlights for me the need to live your life to the fullest and love and support family and friends. We have received a request from the RC of Christchurch Sunrise to show our support for them in a small way by wearing black and red the Canterbury colours to our Club meeting on Thursday. Those bombers supporters amongst us should not have much trouble doing that.
The 106th Rotary birthday celebrations at George Pentland Gardens last Wednesday was a great night with over 250 Rotarians and friends attending and around $3,500 raised. Thanks to those members, friends of Rotary and other guests for attending the event.
If you have not already done so check out our revamped website. Thank you Richard for the work you have done. If any members have photos or ideas for the website let Richard or I know. We might even start up facebook and twitter accounts.
At our last meeting the members voted for the Club to put in an application to be part of the RI pilot program for the Corporate membership trial. We should find out in April or May if we are successful.
The continuing need of the children in Cambodia was highlighted in the talk on the Cambodian Childrens Fund that PP Roy Travis gave the Club at its last meeting. There are some remarkable people devoting their lives to help children in Cambodia. Our Guest speaker this week is Russell Kerr from Hands on Learning. Future guest speakers include Laura Bird and Carlee O’Hehir on 17thMarch who will tell us about their experiences in Tanzania and David Kong from the Sudanese Community on 7th April.
See you Thursday.
President Brad
