President’s Report 2 July 2010
The Changeover was a great way of celebrating the achievements of PP Judy’s year as president and also to start of 2010-11. The highlight of the day would have to have been the investiture of Richard Howell as a Paul Harris Fellow.
Recognition of all the behind the scenes work that Richard does to keep the members informed. Other highlights of the lunch were the naming of Steve Cernotta as Rotarian of the Year for the fifth consecutive year and Nici’s farewell speech.
Thanks to Archie for being Changeover Chair and for PP Steve for taking on the role of Sergeant of Arms at short notice.
As outlined in inaugural address the main objectives I propose for the Club for 2010-11 are: create links with local community groups; develop connections with youth in the local community and globally; support groups and programs internationally through local connections and Rotary Foundation; increase membership and improve public awareness of Club activities and Rotary in general.
Many of the activities that will continue on from last year including the establishment of the Rotaract Club; the schoolies program; youth exchange program; support to the emerging athletes program and Rotary programs such as MUNA and RYPEN capture some of these objectives.
Other possible new activities for the Club include involvement in the Cancer Council’s Relay for Life, support to the Nasir Community Development Agency (a local Sudanese community group) and a joint project with the Frankston City Council.
Over the next couple of months I would like to spend time at our Club meetings to get the thoughts and ideas what members see are the club’s strengths and weaknesses and what opportunities there are for the club to gain new members and also to connect to the local community. I encourage all members to attend the coming Club meetings and participate in the discussions.
See you at the next July meeting.
