President’s Report March
Last meeting was very well attended but a bit sad at the same time. Unfortunately, PP Rod Hanson has decided to call it quits after moving to Red Hill in November last year. Rod has been a member of the club for 20 years, so it is with great reluctance that we have accepted his resignation. You will be very much missed Rod, though we hope that you and Bambi will still attend a few social functions in the future, if you don’t join Dromana that is!
Our guest speaker was Graham Haynes from the Mount Eliza Community Bendigo Bank Committee, which is trying to get a community bank up and running but need a few more subscribers. Shares are only $1 each with a minimum of 500 shares available. These community banks put millions of dollars back into the community through grants to local CFA’s, football clubs etc. The goals of the Community Bank are:
- To provide a full array of banking services at competitive interest rates
- To provide the best in friendly‚ professional and personalised service.
- Ensure we have a manager who lives locally and knows our community‚ not just a voice at the end of the phone.
- Play an active role in enhancing the long term economic prospects of our community.
So if any of you are interested in purchasing shares in this great initiative, PE Brad Bowman has Graham’s contact details so you can get a prospectus. Time is running out for the lease of the property that they want in Mount Eliza, so be quick if you want in!
Now, a number of members have been having difficulty making it to regular meetings so maybe some of the following options would be helpful to you.
Make-up Options
If you miss a Rotary meeting, it can be made up 14 days before of after the missed meeting date. You can receive credit for a make-up by doing any of the following:-
- Attend a regular meeting of another Rotary Club.
- Attend a regular meeting of an Interact Club.
- Attend a regular meeting of a Rotary Fellowship.
- Attend a District Conference, an RI Convention, or other approved District or RI Meeting.
- Attend and participate in a club service project or a club sponsored community event or meeting authorized by the club’s board,
- Attend a board meeting or, if authorized by the board, a meeting of a service committee to which the member is assigned.
- Participate through a club website in an interactive activity requiring an average of 30 minutes of participation.
You can even attend a Rotaract Club meeting and if you are around tomorrow night at 8.00pm at Ecoqui in Frankston, you will be able to do just that! Yes, it is the first official meeting of the Rotaract Club – no name for the club yet. Laura Bird and Carlee O’Hehir have worked very hard to organise intending members and I believe they have quite a few who have committed to attend tomorrow night. I also believe that Laura needs our congratulations as she has won another public speaking competition run by Lions . I am not sure of exactly what she has won but I have heard that she now goes on to the next level of competition. Congratulations Laura!
Next week, the Information Night for our Alternate Schoolies program will be held at the Karingal Centre in Ashleigh Avenue, Frankston at 7.00 pm. All members welcome and invited to attend to swell the numbers. I have written to 10 local schools, so hopeful of getting a good response with lots of interested young people turning up on next Tuesday evening. If you did not receive a copy of the Alternate Schoolies info, please let me know and I will send it to you.
Well, this week our guest speaker is our very own raconteur, Ian Armstrong, so make sure you are in attendance to hear yet another amazing story in the life of Ian.
See you ALL on Thursday.
Cheers
President Judy

Nici’s Report
This month school started again and it was nice to meet all my friends after the holidays.
At the beginning of the month I went with friends to Melbourne to Chinese New Year. We had a lot of fun watching the parade and taking funny pictures.
I had a camp day which I enjoyed because I met all my exchange friends that I hadn’t seen since the camp in December and I got to know the Rotex students. After the camp I went to a ball which was fun because I love dancing. Another day I went to the races and I won 6 dollar and Siri and I had a lot of fun with dressing up.
The highlight of this month was the Bike Ride and the conference. The Bike Ride was very exhausting and my fall was a little bit annoying but beside that I had heaps of fun.
I loved the dancing on the Australian night and the bush band.
I can’t believe that 8 months are already over because on the one hand the time went so fast but on the other hand it seems like I would live here already for more than 8 month.
Since booking my flight I’m very excited to go home and see my friends but I really don’t want to go right now and I feel a bit scared because if I come back to Australia it will be different and I think because of that I would be disappointed.
I also changed host familys again. Judy is a too good cook and I’m scared that I will get kilos again. Two days ago my dad called and he was asking me how much kilos I got he was saying “did you get 2 or 3 ?” and I just told him “ “dad you don’t want to know” ( I got 8 kilos so I think I have to loose kilos before I leave or they won’t recognise me)
At the end of March I’m going on the Rock to Reef and I’m really excited and can’t wait to go.
