President’s report – Nov 19, 2009

At the last meeting, our guest speakers, Mike Cotter and Bob Usher spoke to us about an amazing invention that can not only reduce the amount of fuel we use in our vehicles, but reduce driver fatigue as well. Topping off all that, Bob maintains that it has also helped him combat Lymphoma.

Would you like to save 15-30% on your vehicles fuel costs? Photon charged plates fitted to your vehicle could do just that!

Nanotech Semi Conductors “create a neutralizing effect in and around the vehicle which ionizes the materials and fluids within the vehicle, creating the ability to burn all the components of the fuel, producing more power, reducing fuel consumption, friction and wear and tear.”

Steve Cernotta can verify the truth of this statement with fuel savings of 25% on the trucks that he has had fitted so far. If you missed the meeting, I am sure Steve would be happy to inform you of how to go about getting this amazing technology fitted to your vehicle.

Maybe it was being “Photon charged” but my rushed departure from the meeting to attend Oaks Day was well rewarded for a change. I had a win on the second race of the day that paid for all my losses on every other race. I spent the day in a fabulous marquee, trackside, with bubbly, cocktails and finger food laid on all day compliments of Schweppes. What a great day! So sorry, you couldn’t have all joined me there.

Wednesday, 11th November was the BBQ  at Andersons Removals in Langwarrin, where Ros and Russell Osborne have been staying since last Sunday with a herd of camels. They have walked over 6,000 kms from Darwin to Melbourne leading 8 camels and raising money for Moira Kelly’s Children First Foundation (CFF).

Russell Osborne tells his story to an attentive audience!

Russell Osborne tells his story to an attentive audience!

The CFF is responsible for bringing the conjoined twins, 2-year-old Bangladeshi orphans, Trishna and Krishna, to Melbourne where they have been preparing for the operation that will separate them.  The twins share parts of their skull, brain tissue and blood flow. Doctors expect the operation, which began this morning (Monday), to take at least 16 hours, with a team of 16- 20 surgeons and nurses working in shifts around the clock.

Ros and Russell have been raising money all the way on their journey with the goal of raising $100,000 for the CFF.

The weather was perfect, the food was great and everyone was fascinated to hear Russell telling his very interesting story about why he decided to walk across Australia with his camels – a great tribute to the memory of his mother.

It's a long walk to Melbourne but not as far as Darwin!

We managed to raise $150 for the Children First Foundation from the small group who turned up.

Ros and Russell were leaving from Frankston today, heading along the beach towards Melbourne.

Don’t forget to speak to me about what you are going to bring to the Christmas Party. It looks as though we are going to have plenty of yummy things to eat so far!  And it’s a great opportunity to bring friends and family and potential new members to meet in a relaxed atmosphere.  I hope you all have Sunday 13th December in your diary.

Look forward to seeing you all this Thursday!

Cheers

President Judy

Nici’s Report!
Nici is far too busy chasing camels to give me a report.

President’s report – Nov 5 2009

At our last meeting, we once again experienced the impact that our Rotary programs can have on our young people. Heidi and Chris were the students that we sponsored to the last RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment) Camp at Forest Edge. They spoke with great passion about their experience and how it has already changed their lives for the better – enhancing their public speaking skills was just one result that the experience had on these two young people. It also opened their eyes to the fact that Rotary exists and has encouraged them to think about giving back to their local community.

We have great hopes that they may be the leaders of a local Rotaract group some time in the near future and members of our club in the slightly more distant future. It certainly makes you feel good to hear these stories!

You will have all received a copy of the Membership Satisfaction Survey via email. Many thanks to those who have already filled out their surveys and handed them in. If you haven’t done it yet, please remember to do so and bring it along to the next meeting this Thursday. President Elect, Brad is working hard to find out how we can make this club the best around!

Bulletin 1 November 2009_Page_1_Image_0004A few of us enjoyed seeing “Mao’s Last Dancer” last Tuesday night – a great movie. If you haven’t seen it you should – it was most enjoyable. The consensus is that we should go to a movie once a month – providing there is something on worth seeing! It will just be very casual, come if you can – as we did last week. A small number of us enjoyed a coffee and a glass of wine afterwards at the Brass Razoo- a very pleasant place to relax. Nici’s Birthday Party at Frankston RSL on Friday night was a very pleasant evening. Nici loved her Akubra and her other presents and the birthday cake and sends her – thanks to everyone.

Sausage Sizzle at Mornington Racing Club

Bulletin 1 November 2009_Page_2_Image_0003The sausage sizzle at Mornington Race Course raised $4,410.00 for Aimee Carter’s orphanage in Ghana , a great success. We had an amazing amount of handsome young men buying snags and coming back for more at the first shift. Could it have been the 3 gorgeous German Exchange students serving behind the counter? Many thanks to Nici, Lisi and Josie for their help and many thanks from Tony and Cheryl to everyone else who helped out on the day.

Calcutter Night

The Calcutta Night at Sam Graham’s turned out no race winners for Judy, Allan or Steve but I did win the “Fashions on the Field” competition. Cup Day turned out just as bad – no winners for me or for Allan! Hope some of you picked a winner!

Please note that Janet has kindly offered to open her home for this year’s Christmas Party, so make sure you put Sunday 13th December into your diary now!
